DO YOU KNOW...
Up to 60% of our personal eco footprint is from the food we purchase?
Today, we produce enough food to feed the entire world, yet there are still people starving, begging for food; on the other hand, there is also people who are extremely wasteful and manufacturers over packaging food products so that they can make little extra in their revenues.
It is our job to be the lead by slowly adjusting the way we live and consume; we believe small alterations can lead to big changes.
- Buy organic foods from the farmers market!! The data that were provided above shows how badly eating non-organic foods can negatively impact on our environment as well as our own health. The amount of pesticides that were sprayed on the non-organic fruits and vegetables can severely damage the soil and pollute our underground water resources.
- Buy fruits and vegetables that are IN the season. They are not only cheaper, fresher, and farmers are less likely to add more unknown pesticides into those produce.
- Farmer's Markets sell organic foods and they don't over package their products. Buying foods from them on weekends will save the carbon emissions from daily delivery to groceries stores. On top of it, they are so fresh that they don't even have to waste more energy refrigerating their products.
- Lessen the consumption of animal products, especially Beef and Fish. Eating beef will not only waste large amount of water (cleaning the blood needs water), The consumers are also more likely to produce more Carbon Dioxide after digesting the meat. Due to water pollution from factories and unknown sources, though fish has rich Omega-3 that helps increasing the average IQ, they also contains high amount of toxic in them. Overly consume seafoods such as fish can cause unknown side effects in the future.
- Make sure you finish your food! Living in a consumerism and materialism world, it's so easy just to order more than we need and throw away food without a second thought. Make a list of what you purchased from the grocery store and cross off the foods that has already been eaten so that way you know that has been used and what has not. Plan ahead on your weekly meal plan, this helps you become more conscious on your weekly diet, this may also saves you a few bucks in your wallet!
- Lastly, learn to love our environment, love our planet. We are only given one planet, and making effort to live a healthy lifestyle, this will not only benefit us, but also our future children, grandchildren, and more! Sustainable lifestyle goes a long way!
